 On Thursday, April 3, 2008, Glen Savits spoke at the American Bar Association's Employment Rights and Responsibilities Committe Midwinter Conference in Dana Point, California.  He was representing the employees' point of view on a panel discussing the use of intermittent leave in the workplace under the Family and Medical Leave Act ("FMLA").  The panel also discussed the impact of the Department of Labor's newly proposed regulations governing the FMLA.  The event was covered by the BNA's Daily Labor Report of April 4, 2008.

 On March 18, 2008, Judge Walter Koprowski, Jr., of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, Essex County awarded $110,737.30 in attorney's fees and legal costs to Zinovy and Elie Grinbaum in a disability discrimination case against the Livingston Board of Education.  Jon Green represented the Grinbaums in the successful attorney fee application.

In March 2008Jon Green , Glen Savits and Christopher Lenzo were selected as New Jersey Super Lawyers for 2008 in a poll of New Jersey lawyers conducted by New Jersey Monthly Magazine and the publisher of Law & Politics.  Specifically, Jon Green was selected as a Super Lawyer in Employment Litigation for Plaintiffs, and Glen Savits and Christopher Lenzo were selected as Super Lawyers in Employment & Labor Law and Employment Litigation for Plaintiffs.  The New Jersey Super Lawyers will be featured in the May 2008 edition of New Jersey Monthly.

On February 28, 2008, Magistrate Judge Gabriel Gorenstein of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a published opinion in Rost v. Pfizer, Inc., ____ F.R.D. ____ (S.D.N.Y. 2008), holding that GS&L client Dr. Peter Rost did not have to disclose his family assets in his whistleblower retaliation case.  Pfizer had sought that information in an attempt to argue that Dr. Rost's alleged wealth caused him not to use reasonably diligent measures to search for a new job after he was fired.  Jon Green is lead counsel for Dr. Rost.  Christopher Lenzo and Claudia Reis wrote briefs opposing Pfizer's motion to compel discovery of Dr. Rost's family assets, and Christopher Lenzo and Jon Green presented oral argument to the court in opposition to Pfizer's motion.

On January 26, 2008, Glen Savits gave a seminar to people who have been recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of North Jersey. The seminar concerned how individuals should use the “interactive process” under New Jersey and federal disability law when requesting accommodations of their employers.

On January 10, 2008, Jon Green took part in giving an employment law seminar at the Morris County Courthouse in Morristown. Mr. Green spoke about obtaining electronic discovery from employers in employment litigation.

On December 24, 2007, Jon Green obtained a judgment in Superior Court, Essex County, in a disability discrimination case on behalf of a former Livingston High School student that included $250,000 for emotional distress damages, attorney's fees in the approximate amount of $190,000 and approximately $65,000 in statutory interest. The approximate aggregate judgment is $505,000. The case is Elie Grinbaum v. Township of Livingston Bd. of Education, Docket #ESX-L-4153-01.

On December 6, 2007, Christopher Lenzo testified before the New Jersey Assembly’s Labor Committee in his capacity as Chair of the Legislative Committee of the New Jersey affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association. He successfully argued that a pending hostile work environment bill should be revised to delete the requirement that aggrieved employees prove physical or psychological harm, define the concept of a hostile work environment based on whether the conduct at issue was offensive to a reasonable person of the same protected class as the plaintiff rather than just a reasonable person in the abstract, and delete the requirement that the conduct be repeated.

On November 29, 2007, Christopher Lenzo presented a seminar entitled "Tricks of the Trade: Practical Tips on New Jersey Employment Law from a Plaintiffs' Attorney" at the Princeton Marriott Hotel as part of the Xtreme Continuing Legal Education Program sponsored by the New Jersey Law Journal and the Mercer County Bar Association.

On November 7, 2007, Jon Green was appointed Co-chair of the Electronic Discovery Subcommittee of the Executive Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section.

In November 2007, Jon Green was appointed to the Program Committee of the Sidney Reitman Employment Law American Inn of Court, the only Inn of Court in the country that is exclusively devoted to the training of lawyers in the field of employment law.

On October 2, 2007, the New Jersey Supreme Court agreed to hear the appeal of Haddonfield Police Officer Jason Cutler, who alleged that he was subjected to a hostile work environment because he was Jewish. A Camden County jury agreed with him, but the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court set aside the jury verdict, saying that Officer Cutler did not submit sufficient evidence to the jury to prove his claim. Jon Green and Claudia Reis co-wrote with other counsel an amicus brief on behalf of the New Jersey affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association that supports Officer Cutler's claim. The Supreme Court will consider this brief in its review of the decision. An argument date for the appeal has not yet been scheduled. The case is captioned Cutler v. Dorn, Docket No. M-281, September Term 2007, 60785.

In September 2007Christopher Lenzo was selected by his peers in the labor and employment law bar for the third year in a row to be included in The Best Lawyers in America in the field of labor and employment law.

On August 20, 2007, Jon W. Green and Claudia A. Reis, together with other counsel, filed an amicus curiae ("friend of the court brief") with the New Jersey Supreme Court on behalf of the New Jersey chapter of the National Employment Association in Cutler v. Dorn. The brief argued that the New Jersey Supreme Court should hear an appeal filed by counsel for a Jewish policeman who alleged a hostile work environment due to anti-Semitic comments in the workplace. The jury in the case issued a verdict in the plaintiff's favor but was overturned by a three judge Appellate Division panel that ruled that the anti-Semitic comments were not severe or frequent enough to create a hostile work environment in violation of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. At the end of August 2007, the firm moved to a new, more spacious office suite on the second floor of the same building where it has been located since 2003.

In August 2007, Claudia Reis will again be featured in New Jersey Monthly Magazine as a New Jersey Rising Star in the fields of labor and employment law and employment litigation for plaintiffs.

On July 25, 2007, the Supreme Court of New Jersey held in D'Annunzio v. Prudential Insurance Company of America that independent contractors are protected from whistleblower retaliation under certain circumstances, as urged to do so by Christopher Lenzo, who filed an amicus curiae ("friend of the court") brief in the case on behalf of the New Jersey affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association. On June 13, 2007Christopher Lenzo spoke about “Employment Law Protections for Independent Contractors in New Jersey” at a New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education seminar entitled “Hot Tips in Labor and Employment Law: 2007”.

On May 28, 2007Claudia Reis ’s article entitled Get rid of all those dirty Jews was published in the Employment, Labor and Discrimination Law special supplement to the New Jersey Lawyer.  The article discusses the Appellate Division’s recent decision in Cutler v. Dorn, 390 N.J. Super. 238 (App. Div. 2007).

On April 26, 2007Jon Green and Christopher Lenzo presented a program entitled "How to Avoid Compulsory Arbitration of Employment Disputes and, If You Can't, How to Win Them" for the Association of Trial Lawyers of America New Jersey at the Association's annual Boardwalk Seminar in Atlantic City.

In April 2007, Jon Green and Christopher Lenzo were again featured in New Jersey Monthly Magazine as New Jersey Super Lawyers, Mr. Green in the field of employment litigation for plaintiffs and Mr. Lenzo in that field and the field of employment and labor law.

On March 29, 2007Claudia Reis was a seminar panelist at the American Bar Association Labor & Employment Law Section Employment Rights & Responsibilities Committee Midwinter Meeting in New Orleans. The panel on which Ms. Reis served discussed the use of mental health professionals as experts in litigation involving disability discrimination, reasonable accommodation, and medical leave claims.

On January 30, 2007, the Supreme Court of New Jersey reappointed Christopher Lenzo to its Model Civil Jury Charge Committee.

On January 29, 2007Claudia A. Reis joined the firm as an associate.  Ms. Reis has spent most of her career practicing employment law. She has represented both employees and employers.

On January 27, 2007 Glen Savits gave a seminar to members of The Multiple Sclerosis Society of North Jersey. The title of the lecture was, "Silence Isn't Golden: The ADA and the Interactive Process".

In January 2007, Christopher Lenzo filed an amicus curiae ("friend of the court") brief on behalf of the New Jersey affiliate of the National Employment Lawyers Association with the Supreme Court of New Jersey in Steen v. Monzo. The brief argued that employers should not be insulated from liability for hostile work environment claims just because they have anti-harassment policies.

In January 2007, the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") appointed Christopher Lenzo to its mediator panel.
